Keystone Grant

In March 2022, the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, PA Dept. of Education announced a grant of $750,000 for the Annville Free Library from the Keystone Recreation, Park, and Conservation Fund. This grant, plus the required matching funds raised through a capital campaign, will provide crucial support for construction of the addition that will join the existing library in the Annville Historic District to the library-owned duplex next door. The new facility will give greater access to all ages with its two ADA-compliant entrances, new restrooms on the main floor, and an improved, wider stairway to the downstairs Children’s Library. It will have improved energy efficiency and add a larger youth room and central patron help desk as well. Ceremonial groundbreaking is set for June 18, 2022 and construction work will begin soon after. During all phases of expansion and renovation, the Library will remain open, as much as possible, to serve the community.

Funds for the rehabilitation of adjoining duplex and the existing library building

In addition to the improvements outlined in the Keystone Grant project, the Library continues to raise funds to rehab the adjoining duplex to serve as library program and community space. Needed renovations to the existing library will expand the Children’s Library and add a family restroom and a creativity center for projects on the lower level. Additional windows will bring in more natural light on the main level where some collection space will transform into two small study/tutor rooms patrons request. Once the circulation desk and library office move to the new addition, this space will become an informal public seating area called Lillie’s Place for Lillie Struble.

Hickey Architects, consultants from Arthur Funk and Sons, officials from Annville Township including its Historic Architectural Review Board, and also the Friends of Old Annville have worked closely with the Library’s Vision 2020+ committee since 2017 to develop and implement this plan. Now, with continued support, we look forward to its realization.
